It’s not always an easy fix to make things “fresh” at a fundraiser breakfast, but this client was open to hearing it and making it happen. Spend less, not more, on staging; you don’t need that $500 velvet backdrop. Use less staff, not more; keep it simple. Let us negotiate every detail of every expense, you’ll be glad you did.

The annual Seattle ADDY Awards highlight the best in the Seattle AD biz– and it’s also one h#ll of a party. We were in great shape heading into the event and then we got this email from the committee chair:
“The sell-out situation with the ADDY Awards has reached a critical point. With two weeks left before the event, the pressure for additional tickets is coming from all quarters including people, companies, and ad agencies we’ve never heard from (or heard of) before.”
That’s right, venue change!! WDE got a bigger venue, at a killer price, and helped produce the biggest and best ADDY’s Seattle has ever seen.
“There’s no place like home.”
Cary Kopczynski & Company, an award-winning civil engineering firm, wanted to celebrate their 25th anniversary in style. We convinced them to use a venue they were considering–one of their own buildings (which fyi, is the featured residence in “Fifty Shades of Grey”) and worked with their staff to create an elegant and memorable night. Spoiler Alert, there is no helicopter landing pad on the building’s roof.
“Find a venue that nobody else is using.”
Camp Korey, located in Carnation, WA, had never offered their venue for private events. A family-friendly camp that serves children with serious medical needs (at no cost), it perfectly reflected our client’s investment in the community. We cold-called the camp’s onsite events manager who was delighted to have us as their first -ever corporate client.
We designed a beautiful day featuring yummy BBQ, homemade goodies from a local baker, onsite fishing and boating, a batik arts station, and gift baskets filled with Camp Korey organic produce.
“Use existing Networks”
SWYFS was one of our first major clients and we’ll be forever thankful to them. This past spring, they merged with New Futures and announced that merger at the annual New Features Breakfast. Then, a few months later, they held their annual fundraising gala which honored Executive Director, Steve Dashcle, for 25 his years of service. We convinced Steve that this was the year to get his big brother, former Senator Tom Daschle, to come on out and say a few words from the podium–he was terrific, and polite, and very handsome!
“Be a super hero!”
We love putting on a cape. Six weeks before a major fundraising gala at MOHAI, we got called in to help with EVERYTHING. SYSO has already hired us for this year’s gala, well in advance of the event, and during our first meeting with a new team member he said, “Oh, you’re the women who saved the day for us last year.“ We love that too.
“Less is more.”
It was such a pleasure working with a daughter who couldn’t wait to celebrate her father’s birthday. It needed to be about him, their family, and their closest friends. The perfect location turned out to be where her parents had gotten engaged oh so long ago. Sitting around a warm, intimate table with their closest friends and family, sharing delicious food and wine and so many stories, made for a beautiful celebration.

Why not bring all your people together for a weekend of love and fun in the woods and get married? Every detail of the weekend was a reflection of the bride & groom and their entire community. It was all-hands-on-deck. A field of tents, a line up of motorhomes, communal cooking, stories around the fire, dancing under the stars, hiking near the river, and of course lots of music . BTW, WDE is always game to stay in a VW camper van.
